Art + Wine + Beer + Cars + Music + Dogs + Kids = Family Friendly Fun in Scott's Valley

August brings the annual Scott's Valley Art, Wine & Beer Festival (18 years now) to Santa Cruz County; a kid and dog friendly weekend-long event that should not be missed – especially now that they've added the Cops 'N Rodders Car Show to the mix.

We attended this family-friendly event last Saturday for the fist time and had a great time – especially our son who happily exhausted himself on the various jumpies, bungies and other activities in the Kids Fun Zone, while mom and dad sipped pinot noir and micro brews and #davethedog smelled all the smells while listening to an Eagles cover band jamming on stage.

There was a wide range of interesting art on display for sale by local painters, sculptors, photographers, jewelry makers, glass blowers, sign makers and more.

I was particularly interested in the 100 or so vintage cars on display and promptly excused myself once we arrived at the Skypark Park grounds to check out the various hot rods, muscle cars, ponies, cruisers, jalopies and old police cars. There were also some 50's camping trailers that were fully restored and looking very cool. It wasn't exactly the Concour d'Elegance, but it was still good fun, especially if you are a gearhead like me.

There were a few food vendors there, but to be honest, the selection was a bit limited so you might want to snack on something before you get there. Still, the frozen custard we had went down well.

Sunday was technically "Dog Day" but there were lots of them there with us on Saturday, making it a great dog-friendly event. All in all it was a nice way to spend the sunny afternoon (especially since it was overcast in Santa Cruz) and we look forward to going again next year, and exploring more of Scott's Valley.

Admission is FREE, however, if you plan on sampling the local wines and micro brews (and you'll want to), Wine/Beer Tasting Kits are available, which include a festival glass and four drink tickets, for $25 per person. Helpful Hint: bring some extra cash for more drink tickets.

The Scott's Valley Art, Wine & Beer Festival & Car Show runs August 19-20. Check the website for exact dates for 2018. www.svartfest.com
